Discover more from Random Walk
Lots of people like to shop online and be social about it. Weirdos. Well, the second part, at least.
Everything reads better in your browser or in the app. The footnotes especially, and Random Walk is really leaning into the footnotes. Plus, if you have the app, you can set delivery to “app only” and then my daily barrage will feel less like a barrage. Unfortunately, substack does not yet have a “Weekly Digest” option, but I’m hectoring them aplenty.

Ecommerce is still a big deal
Without vouching for the data, apparently TikTok “Social Buying” is a pretty big deal:
33.3 Million Americans bought a thing on TikTok this year? So 1 in 10?
That’s a lot higher than I would have guessed, but given the majority of those buyers are young people, TikTok shopping could be even more popular as that cohort ages up.
Assuming TikTok sticks around that long.
Incidentally, but while on the subject of e-commerce, apparently e-commerce is the first sector to reach $1B in new markets:
Fintech comes in as close second, and tip your cap to the Vietnamese Crypto tycoons.
I’m not sure what it says about Turkey and China (and then India) that Media rises to the top so quickly, but it sure is interesting.
First you buy stuff, then you talk about, and then you figure out how to pay for it and ship it?
