Growth rates have been slowing for a while
US population growth has been declining for a while, but during the pandemic, we hit a historic low:
The AP chart doesn’t really tell the whole story though. It starts counting in 2000 when the growth rate was ~1%. If you zoom out further, however, the drop is even more striking:
